Tour of the Mayme Clayton Museum

Come join the UCLA SLA Student Chapter for a Saturday visit to the Mayme Clayton Museum in Culver City.

The Clayton Collection is the largest and most academically substantial independently held assemblage of its kind in the world. It is second in size and scholarly scope to the renowned Schomburg Collection in the New York City Public Library.

The tour will start at 10:30am on Saturday, November 5, 2011 and last about 90 minutes. This very special tour is limited to 25 people, so get your RSVP in early, no later than October 28, 2011, to assure your spot on the tour.

There are two free parking lots located at the Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum – map. Both parking lots (one near the entrance and the other directly behind the building) are available for us to park in.

SLA Student Chapter Information Session

On Monday, October 3rd, the SLA Student Chapter, along with the SAA and ARTiFACTS student groups, will hold an information session in Room 111 at 12:40pm. Pizza will be provided!

Come find out what these groups do,  learn about open officer positions, and eat pizza!

SLA presents Food Tour of Downtown L.A.

Whether you’re rejoining us after the summer break, or are new to the department (or even Los Angeles), the UCLA student chapter of the Special Libraries Association has partnered with Six Taste Food Tours to bring you an exciting event to kickoff the school year!

Please join us on a private walking food tour of Downtown Los Angeles, featuring 6 delicious food stops: Masis Mediterranean, Mac & Cheeza, Syrup Desserts, Two Bits, Big Man Bakes and Sarita’s Pupuseria. Sample some of LA’s greatest food, learn about the history of downtown LA and make some new friends within the IS department!

Please RSVP as soon as possible, as we can only accommodate 20 guests and spots are filling up fast. Regular Six Taste DTLA food tours are $60/guest, but we’ve managed to get a great deal — now only $40/guest for this special event. Additionally, UCLA SLA is offering a $10 discount for the first 8 IS students to RSVP, so act fast! RSVPs will be accepted until EOD Friday, Sept. 30.
